We are offering a small number of long-term residence memberships in a new primal living, raw foods intentional community on the Big Island of Hawaii. If you are sincere and wish to share your passion with others who hold similar values, you may have found a perfect home.

The 30+ acre property rests in a lush volcanic jungle, within walking distance to the coast. It is developed and ready, with an infrastructure of buildings, huts, and systems that can readily support a small community. In fact, the property is wholly self-sufficient, with a solar system, rain catchments, composting privies, and abundant food. The only outside utility is wireless internet, which we have and can all access.

There are hundreds of mature, bearing fruit trees, including: durian, mango, avocado, banana, oranges, jackfruit, sapote, mangosteen, and exotics like ice cream bean and jaboticaba. The list is long and amazing – there is a veritable cornucopia of tropical fruit. Fancy a young coconut? There are hundreds of bearing palms. Established gardens produce greens, vegetables, and herbs. Everything is organic and will always be. The deep, rich, volcanic soil provides the best growing medium on Earth.

The climate is temperate and hospitable. It stays close to 80 degrees every day of the year, with evenings dipping into the upper 60s. There are no crazy swings in temperature; there is always abundant fruit in season. If you want to see snow, drive to the top of the volcano. When you are done shivering, drive away and warm up in a volcanically-heated hot pond.

The community will be small, with each member working together to keep the jungle back and the palms producing. The expectation is that someone living here will spend around 20 to 25 hours per week engaged in “land dance”. We further hope to attract members with a variety of special skills and talents (arts, music, language, sciences, engineering, etc.), which could be shared with the rest of the community. The idea is to create a rich and varied family of people who share a commitment to a natural, primal, sustainable lifestyle. Children are treasured and welcome.

The lifestyle will be natural and basic. We live with power in the common areas but without in our private spaces. This is by choice. Life here is not focused on television or electronics, but rather on physical experience. We celebrate our community and friendships, we work to keep our homestead vibrant, and we joyfully pursue many paths of self-enrichment.

There is limited room available. We wish to tread lightly on our land and want to ensure continued abundance for all. We are offering 12 Founding Memberships. For sake of counting, a couple or family would take up a single membership. We are creating an intimate and close community.

Who are we looking for? You may be single or part of a couple. You may have children; if not, you value them. You have a burning passion for natural living, and are committed to realizing your passion. You share our desire to feast on fresh, ripe, whole, raw fruit, greens, and nuts. While you may seek self-enlightenment and self-fulfillment, you recognize the value in sharing with others, lovingly and for mutual enrichment. You are ready and willing to participate in our dance with the land.

We are not a commune; we are not promoting any sort of ideology beyond primal living and a low-fat raw food lifestyle (as taught by Dr. Doug Graham in the 80/10/10 Diet). We are accepting and respectful of everyone’s individual beliefs and paths.

We will self-govern, collectively and with mutual respect. Our goals are shared and we will approach one another non-violently.

We wish to form a community of people who share our vision of life, and we want to create lasting relationships and bonds. If you are interested in a tropical, raw fruit eating version of back-to-the-land living, you should contact us.

As caretakers and founders of the community, our family takes up the first of the twelve membership spots. We are a natural living, home-birthing and home-schooling family with children. In addition to working the land we will be running educational classes, workshops, and retreats intended to teach our values and methods to others. (If you are interested in participating in these enterprises, there may be income opportunities). We live in a two-story structure which also currently houses the retail shop and workshop. We are eager to meet our new community members, and hope to form wonderful and lasting relationships with each of you.

Our second member, and community co-founder, is renowned raw food teacher and counselor, Dr. Doug Graham. He is the author of the 80/10/10 Diet, a penultimate book on raw food health and nutrition. He has championed a healthy, whole foods-based diet for nearly thirty years. His teachings lie behind our health and dietary philosophy.

We have just ten remaining spots and we expect to fill them rapidly. There will be a screening process with candidates, to help us (and you) determine if there is truly a good match. We are opening our home and hearts and want to find only genuine, loving people to add to our community.
